Eastlake

In the Eastlake neighborhood, kayaks paddle by the houseboats that line the waterfront of Portage Bay and Lake Union. Eastlake is an often-overlooked Seattle neighborhood, because of its location between downtown and the U-District; people often pass by this urban-hodgepodge of biotech companies, eateries and waterfront parks. Restaurants along the main thoroughfare, Eastlake Avenue, offer diners everything from bakery goodies and sports bar grub to intimate romantic meals. Small businesses and a few boutiques also dot this neighborhood consisting mainly of apartment and condominium housing. Homes in this area often offer views overlooking the water, Queen Anne Hill and the Olympic Mountains. The district is bordered by the Montlake neighborhood to the east and is at the foot of Capitol Hill. Nearby University Bridge spans the waterway to the north, connecting Eastlake to campus. Several bus routes provide easy access to the University, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and downtown.
