Capitol Hill

At the turn of the last century, Capitol Hill was Seattle's most fashionable neighborhood with its Victorian homes and lumber baron mansions. These stately houses still dignify the blocks between 11th and 15th Avenues East, but the rest of Capitol Hill is a vibrant showcase of modern Seattle life. Broadway is the neighborhood's main thoroughfare and the center of the hill's activity. Trendsetters, punk rockers and drag queens all congregate along this popular street because of its funky shops, vintage-clothing stores, international array of restaurants and dynamic nightlife. Many of the city's bars and clubs are scattered through out Capitol Hill. In May and June, movie buffs flock to this neighborhood for the Seattle International Film Festival to view the releases in district's distinctive movie houses. Through out the year, residents also enjoy walking through Volunteer Park and touring the Seattle Asian Art Museum. Capitol Hill borders the Eastlake neighborhood to the west and Montlake and Madison Park to the east, several bus routes run to campus through out the day.
