Alki
In the summer, Alki is a popular Seattle destination with its beaches and boardwalks that look towards
Puget Sound and the downtown skyline. The relaxed attitude of this former beach colony continues as
people flock to the resort-like neighborhood to skate, beach comb, play volleyball and build bon fires
in the sand of Alki Beach Park. Alki Beach is an historic landmark for the city, as the first white
settlers to the region spent the winter of 1851 there before going on to establish Seattle on the
opposite side of Elliott Bay. Southwest of downtown, Alki is about a 20-minute drive from the University
District.
